Replacing Xbox360 DVD drive

Okey doke...just wondering if anyone here has replaced the DVD drive in their 360 console and flashed the old drive key to allow it play games?

My old console was getting the "unplayable disc" error and MS wanted €100 to repair it so I declined their generous offer and just bought a new Arcade instead.

Was browsing thru Ebay this evening and decided to buy a new Samsung DVD drive for €40 and am going to replace the old one. Its not as simple as taking the old one out and hooking up the new one as you must flash the new drive with the old drives key so it will play Xbox games. The plan is to get it working again and then use it for trading in on and Elite along with the Arcade.

I have been reading the tutorials online and it looks straight forward enough but thought I would ask here if anyone has done something similar and get their feedback.

In any case I will make post on how I got on and the results.

Naw i never tried that limey, but as you say must tutorials are pretty easy to follow. I look forward to seeing how u get on

Theres a way to do it, by simply takin a part of the pcb off your old drive andsticking it in the new one, heard a few lads talk about it on some modding forums

Yeah it looks like this is right. Just replacing the control board on the new drive will be a lot easier than trying to flash it. Should have the new drive by the end of the week so will fill you all in then.

We Do Not Condone Flashing Your DVD Drive For The Use Of Copied Games Or Downloaded Games. The Only situation we deem this acceptable is when to plainly replace one broken drive with another.
